Table of Contents:

Rules for the Regulars
Rules for the Moderators

GLOBAL RULES:

Rule 1. NO SPAMMING
This includes ALL-CAPS posting. Spamming on this website is not tolerated and WILL result in a 3 day+ ban (depending on how severe we think it is) from the forums. There is an official topic for this, so if you really feel you have to let it out, go to the spam section of the forums. All we ask is that you keep it clean and do not flame people.

Rule 2. NO EXCESSIVE LANGUAGE/VULGARITY
You may use the following language in the forums, anything else will not be tolerated: ass, damn, hell, dick, bastard, bitch, shit, and fuck are all allowed except when used for spam purposes. Homophobic, sexist, racist, even religious slurs will get you banned from the forums. The "N word", the "K word", and the "C word" (we all know what they are) are not allowed, this will result in a 2 week ban. No questions asked.

Rule 3. NO INVASION OF PRIVACY
This means you are not allowed to press someone for information that they do not want to give. Also, by reading a topic that does not belong to you in the Black Marks Appeals forum, you are invading someone's privacy. This will NOT be tolerated, and will NOT be taken lightly.

Anything along those lines will get the person demanding the information banned.

Rule 3. NO TELLING PEOPLE OFF/FLAMING
You may not flame people in these forums! The result of flaming someone will result in a ban from the forums for 1 week. This means, no telling people to kill themselves, no telling people to go fuck themselves, no telling people that they should die in a fire or die in any way in particular (this especially goes for administrators, site affiliates, and moderators).

Rule 4. ABSOLUTELY NO ADULT CONTENT
This site is not an adults only place. If we admins find that you have linked anything to an adult site, have adult content in your avatar, or provide an adult link as your website we will delete your account. No questions asked.

Rule 5. SHOW RESPECT
The people on these forums are not just users, they are people. For this reason, we would like it if you, the users, would show each other respect. We do not want any unsatisfied people.

Rule 6. NO LOOPHOLES
There are no loopholes to these rules.

Any attempts to bypass the word filters will get you banned.

The use of bots on this site is strictly prohibited. Anyone raising suspicion will be notified, if you do not respond to the message in 3 days your account MAY be deleted.

If you find any people not following the forum rules, please PM me and I will handle them. DO NOT FLAME THEM IN ANY WAY or you will get banned as well. Please note that almost no bans will be permanent, and that if you get banned too many times you will receive a permanent ban and may be deleted.

If you are banned, you will get a number in parenthesis. This number is based on how many black marks* you have.

Example:
Greth-of-Destruction (1)
Greth-of-Chaos (3)
Nano-Greth (7.5)
Nano-Forums (9.9)

*Black marks are offenses against your account. If you should happen to break a rule, you will get a number of black marks. This depends on how severe the rule is, and how much you managed to mess with it. Once you receive 10 marks, depending on how badly you have screwed up your account, it may receive a permanent posting ban, or complete deletion from the site. Using a bot account is an automatic 10 marks, IP ban, and deletion, so DO NOT use these.

Spamming in a forum that does not permit it will earn between .5-2 (depending on how severe).
Excessive language will earn you 1 black mark.
Invasion of Privacy will earn you between 1 and 4 black marks.
Flaming someone will earn you 2 marks.
Adult content will earn you 10 marks, and a deletion.
Having a bot account post for you will earn you 10 black marks, and IP ban, and a deletion from the site.

On the other hand, if you do something that helps the forum, or the people using it, you will get white marks*.

Example:
Greth-of-Destruction (-1)
Greth-of-Chaos (-3)
Nano-Greth (-7.5)
Nano-Forums (-10.05)

*A user will receive white marks when they do something good for the community of the forums. This could be from helping out another user when they need something, suggesting something that the forum needs, or even reporting another user doing something wrong. If you get white marks, you will receive a negative number.

Also, try to keep in mind that these will be the same parenthesis used! Meaning that the black marks and white marks cancel each-other out!!

Example:
Greth-of-Destruction has broken a rule and gotten 2 black marks. Afterward, he helps to report a user that has been harassing another user.

Greth-of-Destruction (2) then becomes Greth-of-Destruction (1) since he got a white mark for helping the forum community.

A few of our forums require separate rules for various reasons. They are as follows:

General Forum Rules:
The general forum is for anything related to Nano-Greth, or off topic. As you can see, we have a wide variety of forums on the forum list page, ranging between favorite genres/bands of music and applications for a moderator status. If your topic fits the criteria of any of these forums, please do not post your topic here. If it is seen and can go into music for example, one of our moderators/admins will move it and notify you that your topic has been moved.

No excessive foul language. This means no use of the N, K, or C words. No use of any words that may offend people (racist, fascist, sexist, even religious slurs).

Fuck and shit are allowed under the circumstances that they are not excessively used. If you do feel like you need to use these words, please write them in the spam forum, but again, try to keep it to a minimum. We don't want to look like a swearing-based forum.

Last but not least, the forums can seem like a very, let's say, vulnerable place for someone to be. I know that I, myself, can get a little defensive at times, but try to be aware that when people criticize you in some way, that they are most likely trying to help you. IF you feel that they are flaming you, PLEASE TELL US! You can view the list of admins, site affiliates, and moderators by clicking on the tab marked "staff list" on the navigation bar at the top of the screen.

About You Forum Rules:
Whilst we would like to hear everything about you (since everyone has a story to tell) we would like you to please keep some things to yourself. Information that is not necessary will be censored. For example, if you live in New York City (USA), you can say so, but please do not tell us that you live on 42nd street, as New York will do. If the information is necessary to complete your story, then please use/make up a fake street name/number.

We do care about our users' safety, and would like it if you would keep certain things to yourself. Also, NEVER give out your phone number or email address! You WILL receive black marks for doing so.

Games and Movies Forum Rules:
We would like to ask that you only link to appropriate games, or in your post say that the game is not appropriate, and the age for which users may see it. ADULT GAME AND MOVIE LINKS ARE NOT ALLOWED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

If anyone links to inappropriate sites, their account will be (the first time, temporarily) banned. Please tell us, the admins, affiliates, or mods, if someone has done this. To do so, please private message a mod, admin, Tristan, or me.

General Feedback Forum Rules:
This forum is for ANY feedback you have about the site or its movies/games, hence the "General Feedback" name. This forum is for helping us figure out what our users like and don't like about our features. This could range from rules for the forums, to jokes in our movies, or even the gameplay of our games.

Also, please do not give links in your posts, since they are not needed here in this forum. If you do so, we will censor them, and lock/delete your thread.

Try not to keep a closed mind here.

Politics Forum Rules:
Please DO NOT write about wishing any politicians shot, burned, blown up, etc.
We WILL NOT tolerate this, and will ban you for an amount of time determined at the time of the offense.

Please do not post topics for the purpose of pissing off a crowd of people. ex: "republicans are snobs". This is bound to get flaming, and if this does occur, you, as well as the flaming person/people, will be banned for an amount of time to be determined at the time of the offense.

Also, try not to write one-sided statements about any political candidates, you may not like the candidate, but try to get as much information as possible when trying to make a statement about someone. propaganda doesn't get anyone anywhere.

Music Forum Rules:
Please do not post links here, since there is no need to.

Try to stay on topic at all times. This is a music discussion forum, so anything along the lines of lyrics, favorite bands, favorite genres, music quizes, etc. are all fine. You may also want to talk about upcoming albums and songs.

Spam Forum Rules:
DO NOT enter this forum expecting to be welcomed by nice words and happy people! This forum's purpose is mostly for relieving stress. Please do not EXCESSIVELY write swear words.

Black Marks Forum Rules:
The rules here are simple.

  • Please make sure that you are appealing Black Marks and NOTHING ELSE.
  • Please, if you notice a topic that has not been deleted yet, DO NOT read it! We
KNOW that you would not want to have your offenses read! This counts as INVASION OF PRIVACY, and will not be taken lightly to!
  • Spam will not be tolerated, as usual.
  • Flaming someone will not be tolerated, and will be dealt with harshly, since you are clearly reading someone's appeal, and invading their privacy.

These forums are not here for general discussion. ALL topics resolved WILL be deleted after a decision has been made, so do not worry, no one will see your offenses. When we do resolve an appeal, we, the admins, will notify you via private message.

Applications for Moderator Status [currently not being used]:
There are TWO rules for this forum, and a few conditions. If you follow these rules, along with the other forum rules, fit the criteria, and use the template below to send in your application, you may be selected to be a mod! Exciting right?

  • DO NOT flame any users sending an application to us.
  • DO NOT spam in this section of the forums. This WILL result in a 3 day ban.

CONDITIONS:

You need to be active at least once every 3 days.
You need to be able to properly "punish" someone if they are not following the forum rules.
You need to NEVER flame someone, even in the ban reasoning.

On to the template...

Please use the following template to leave your application. Copy+paste if needed.

  • Why I would be good as a moderator:
  • How I can help the site:
  • What will I do if someone annoys me:
  • For what reasons should I ban someone:
  • How active I am on the forums:

Side Notes:

By registering to the forums, you accept this sites rules. Whether or not you have read them does not determine your punishment. You are responsible for following these whether you have read them or not.

Please also note that ANY reports taken of incidents WILL NOT BE SHARED WITH THE PUBLIC! This allows us to take action without you taking the blame. Any false reports will not count against your account unless we, the admins, feel that you are false reporting on purpose, in which case we will inform you.

If anyone is having issues with these rules, please contact me through a private message via the site for something personal, or post here, in this topic, for something public that you would like to announce. Any spamming in the posting space below will get the spamming account temporarily banned for a time to be determined at the time of the offense.

If you have just registered with a new account, we would encourage you to go to your profile and set up your settings. Make a signature! We would like to get to know you more. Wink

The rules for the moderators are EXACTLY THE SAME, but with certain exceptions. There exceptions are listed below. These rules include rules for users AND moderators, so everyone should read them!

  • Moderators must agree to have an "[FO]" for forum owner, an "[A]" for admin, an "[FA]" for forum affiliate, an "[HM]" for high moderator, an "[M]" for board moderator, or a "[P]" for priority user, next to their name, so that other users know that they are of higher authority, and therefore should be listened to above all else.
  • Moderators must never flame anyone under ANY circumstances. Flaming will result in black marks being placed on the flaming moderator's account, as it would any other user, and possible DEMOTION. We would like our moderators to be role models for other users.
  • Moderators are regular users, treat them as you would any other user on the forum.
  • High Moderators have the ability to ban other users, and moderators can always ask users of the High Moderator status and above to ban a user. For this reason, please be on your best behavior at all times on the forums.
  • Moderators MUST leave an "edit note" explaining why they have edited/locked your post(s)/thread(s). If a moderator should not do such a thing, please report it to us, the admins, so that we may handle the situation. Thanks to our IP checking system, we can identify which moderator has done this. Also, keep in mind that if a moderator should fail to leave an "edit note", they have probably forgotten.

Here is an example of what an "edit note" should include:
